How to get The Odyssey 70mm IMAX tickets after they “sell out”
Every 70mm IMAX showing of The Odyssey at AMC Lincoln Square 13 is currently sold out through August 19, 2026. It feels like a lost cause, but you can do it.
AMC tickets can be refunded or exchanged any time before the movie starts, and people refund tickets every single day, for every showtime for every movie — including very good tickets. When they do, the seat goes right back onto the public seat map.
I built AMC Sniper to watch AMC seat maps and alert people when good seats for movies become available. My sniper recently blew up because of the Odyssey 70mm IMAX showings, everyone and their mom wants one. I've been tracking the data and want to share some tips for getting tickets for this movie.
Watch for refunds
Track the showings you want for a couple of weeks. Refunds trickle in constantly, at completely random times — 2 pm on a Tuesday, 3 am on a Saturday — and eventually you should be able to nab one.
This is a “sold out” Friday 6 pm showing at San Francisco’s Metreon that AMC Sniper watched for five days. Drag the timeline, but clearly you can see people are refunding and buying tickets constantly.
The problem: tickets don’t last long. For most movies you could check the seat map a few times a day and likely buy a refunded ticket. For this movie, the popular showings have a lot of people watching them, and good seats disappear in minutes or seconds.
The free plan checks every 60 seconds and emails you if a new seat becomes available. Checking every 5 seconds is expensive for me to run, so I put that cadence — and text alerts — part of a Plus plan. For most movies the 60 second cadence is fine, but it won't cut it for the Odyssey. That also means if you get an alert you need to be quick!
Watch for new showtimes to drop
The Odyssey is likely to play in 70mm IMAX for a while — AMC has been extending the run in batches, and showtimes are currently on sale through August 19, 2026. When a new date drops, the entire auditorium opens at once.
Those tickets are also competitive, but much easier to get, so we made a tool for this too. Create a New Tracker, pick your theater, choose Watch for new showtimes, and set a date range starting August 20, 2026 — the first date without tickets. The moment AMC adds a showing, you get an alert while the seat map is still wide open.
Getting an alert when 400 seats open at once is a lot easier than fighting everyone over one refunded seat.
Show up really early
The 2:00 am and 6:00 am showings are the easiest to snipe for by far. Less-committed people are waking up at 4:00am, refunding their ticket, and going back to bed. And these tickets aren't as attractive to scalpers, especially right before a showtime.
This is the Saturday 6:00 am showing at Lincoln Square. Refunds accelerate through the night, and when the movie started there were still open seats that nobody ever bought. It's risky, but you have a good shot of getting a seat if you drag yourself to the theater at 5:30 am and refresh the app until a ticket appears.
